The Kshatriya Samiti: A Beacon of Social Reform

The emergence of the Kshatriya Samiti marked a significant turning point in the Rajbanshi community’s struggle for recognition and dignity. Stemming from centuries of discrimination and mistreatment at the hands of upper-caste Hindus, the Rajbanshis, led by figures like Sri Haromohan Roy and Panchanan Barma, embarked on a journey towards social reform. In the late 19th century, amidst efforts to classify them as part of the Koch community, the Rajbanshis mobilized under the leadership of Sri Haromohan Roy, demanding recognition as a distinct caste in the census. Despite facing resistance from entrenched interests, their perseverance led to important discussions and recommendations acknowledging the Rajbanshis as Vratya Kshatriyas.

However, it was Panchanan Barma who carried the torch forward, establishing the Kshatriya Samiti in 1910 with the aim of rejuvenating the Rajbanshi Kshatriya community. Panchanan’s tireless efforts, fueled by a quest for justice and recognition, laid the foundation for a movement that transcended geographical boundaries.Post-Panchanan era, the Kshatriya Samiti continued its mission under different leaderships, advocating for the rights and dignity of the Rajbanshi community. From legal battles to cultural preservation, the Samiti remained steadfast in its commitment to upliftment.
